Holiday gifts on a high school budget

It’s officially the holiday season, which means the stores are packed with shoppers seeking out the best gifts. Though everyone is looking for the perfect item for their friends and family, the prices aren’t always as ideal as the present. High schoolers especially have a hard time shopping with little cash. Here are a few $10 gift ideas for everyone on your list.
Mom: Mothers are easy to find gifts for. Even when you’re in high school, they still love anything thoughtful and handmade. Now, this doesn’t mean you should break out the macaroni art and glitter. Instead, buy a cheap picture frame and some puffy paint at the craft store, find a good photo of you and your mom, and decorate the frame. It can be as colorful or subtle as you want; as long as it comes from you and involves a little effort, your mom is sure to love it.
Dad: Skip the necktie; chances are he has about a million already. Instead, go to the coffee shop. If your dad has a preferred café that he hits before work every morning, a gift card makes a perfect present. Otherwise, pick up a bag of coffee. Most coffee shops sell beans by the pound, and can usually grind the beans for you. Imagine your father opening a box on Christmas morning filled with the smell of his favorite flavored coffee. Mmm...
Girlfriend: Girls love guys who think of them on the holidays. Whether you’re in a long-time relationship or a new couple, a mixed CD makes a great gift. Become your own DJ and mix up a blend of songs that you both love, songs that remind you of her, or just some stuff you know she’ll like. The song choices are endless, but no matter what her tastes in music you’re sure to give the perfect gift that won’t break your bank.
Boyfriend: Guys can be tough to shop for. If your guy has you stumped for a present, try taking him out instead. Go to a movie or restaurant of his choice and foot the bill. He’ll love the fact that he isn’t the one paying for a change, and if you’re there to enjoy it with him he’ll love it even more.
Best Friend: Chances are, this will be the easiest thing on your list. You know your best friend almost as well as yourself, but the urge to splurge on something you know they’ll love can be tempting. To keep it cheap and fun, go to a discount store. Grab a gift bag and fill it with toys, games and candy for a hilarious gag gift. If you think it’s funny, chances are your best friend will think so, too.
