The “Iowa Girls State” in Des Moines and “Girls Nation” in Washington DC provides high school young women the opportunity to experience the workings of state and federal governments. At the sessions, students learn leadership, patriotism, self-worth and confidence which assists in their preparation to be productive and successful members of our society. While at Girls State, Petra Hahn, of Central High School, was elected as Lieutenant Governor in Des Moines and she was then chosen to attend Girls Nation in DC where she served on the President Cabinet as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. This was an incredible experience for Petra and she represented Davenport Central as well as the entire school district at both a state and federal level!
